About G-United: G-United is a national volunteer program initiated by the Presidency, led and implemented by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and supported by Evidence Action.
The program aims to promote national cohesion, improve educational outcomes for children in over 15,000 primary schools across the country, and create enriching opportunities for over 30,000 unemployed Kenyan youth.
Under this selective and prestigious program, the government will recruit recent university graduates to serve as volunteers in primary schools, where they will support remedial education and serve as ‘education ambassadors’ in the surrounding community.
Volunteers will receive training, a small stipend to cover living expenses, and career development opportunities as a part of the experience.
This evidence-based program is modeled on effective government-run programs that have successfully achieved impact at scale in South Asia and West Africa.
Purpose of Role: The Senior Associate, Partnerships and Communications, will support the engagement with organizations, companies and individuals in the public, private and non-profit sector ensuring that such engagement results in their support of G-United’s program goals.
They will drive key elements of G-United’s private sector engagement strategy including identification and outreach to potential corporate partners, following-up and executing on corporate commitments, and maintaining outreach tools/databases and documents.
He/she will also be responsible for implementing a focused public relations strategy, public marketing of the G-United brand and management of G-United’s social media platforms.
The Senior Associate, Partnerships and Communications, will report to the G-United Program Director.
Key Goals and Responsibilities
Partnerships identified, maintained and commitments secured.
Identify potential partners based on G-United’s strategic needs and sequence the partnership development process based on G-United’s implementation life-cycle.
Identify needs and interests of potential and existing partners and find ways through which the needs can be met by partnering with G-United, thereby providing a means to develop strong partnerships.
Maintain a partnerships tracking pipeline from the private and non-profit sectors. Prioritize meetings based on alignment of interests and strategic needs.
Establish firm commitments from partners for various program needs including:
Supporting the volunteer training process by providing input in program and curriculum design, training materials and mentorship. This includes the design and implementation of the program’s employability and entrepreneurship training.
Strengthening and incentivizing volunteer recruitment, retention and performance, for instance, by endorsing G-United.
Helping G-United develop and implement performance management tools that are well-aligned to employer needs.
Gaining partner inputs, engagement and participation in a Career Fair to be held in the ninth month of each cohort of G-United volunteers.
Placement of G-United volunteers in mentorship/internship programs, or jobs following their fellowship.
Provision of other core competencies, skills, assets, resources and human capital to support G-United’s goals.
Funding program activities including volunteer stipends, training, career fair, user devices, amongst other program elements.
Follow through on commitments G-United makes to its partners to ensure they are implemented.
Work with program partners to sustain good will for the program and incentivize graduate students to apply for the program.
Maintain a partners’ database and keep them informed and engaged about G-United.
Work with the rest of G-United’s leadership team to continually refresh G-United’s partnership development strategy.
Identify and manage any risks or areas of concern related to Private and Nonprofit engagement.Program public relations & communications managed and executed effectively
Support the program’s Public Relations function by, among others, in the development of publicity materials e.g. newsletters, one pagers, presentations, business cases and concept notes.
Implementing a PR roadmap based on a deep understanding of the program’s objectives and audiences.
Oversee, monitor/track and document media coverage and brand visibility of G-United.
Support the development of branding, PR and communication material, tools and reports including brochures, News Letters, handouts, promotional videos, photographs, films, website, social media tools and other multimedia content.
Manage relationships and communication with media, opinion-shapers and key stakeholders.
Organizing events including press conferences, exhibitions, open days, speaking opportunities and press tours.
Developing, maintaining and updating information on the program’s website and social media.
Creating the culture and mindset of consistently communicating, maintaining and managing G-United’s brand image.Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or related field.Skills
Strong ability to build and maintain relationships: establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve program goals.
Highly organized, strong communicator (excellent writing and verbal skills), client-facing, rock-star that thrives in building and maintain relationships.
Sound judgment related to organizational and interpersonal dynamics.
Ability to envision, plan and project-manage complex, collaborative projects, with impeccable follow-through on execution.
Ability to thrive in a goal-oriented, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial environment, including the ability to be flexible in project execution.
Strategic thinker with a passion for continuously improving program and team strategy
Good networks with local and international media.
Relentlessly inquisitive, curious and skilled at defining answers to difficult and sometimes ambiguous challenges
Proven design and digital media management skillsExperience
3-5 years’ experience managing relationships, preferably private sector relationships.
Experience in the NGO and/or public sector in Kenya.
1 years’ experience working in communications and with multiple brands. Strong experience in the social media marketing space.
Excellent computer skills required, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and varied internet tools.This position is based in Nairobi.
Term: 1 year contract
